Abstract

Many studies on Ahmadou Kourouma's Waiting for The Vote of The Wild Beasts exist. Some seek to determine the mysticism in the text while others attempt to show the mystery of dictatorship as a main theme of the novel. However, there is still no available literature that exposes bipolarisation in African politics as combination of both. In this study, titled "Dictatorship an outcome of bipolarization in politics in the post-independence Africa and the disenchantment of Africans: A literary analysis of Waiting for The Vote of The Wild Beasts of Ahmadou Kourouma", we explored bipolarisation in African politics as a treatise on dictatorship and arrived at the conclusion that bipolarisation is the manifestation of a mixture-practice of mysticism and penchant for absolutism. The consequence is that bipolarisation ignites the violent behaviour as portrayed in the text via the conduct of the heads of government. As it happens, we unearthed bipolarisation as a psychological disorder that pushes the victim to dictatorially abuse of power; the competing factors occasioning dictatorship being extraordinary illusion, paranoia, and addiction to mythomania. We recommend, therefore, that further study be consecrated to finding out a psychological solution to victims of bipolarisation in politics considering mediocrity, falsehood, duplicity, and politics without ideology as root cause. Keywords: Dictatorship, Bipolarisation, Politics, Post-independence , Disenchantment.
